In 2017, a study on behalf of NABU found that around 50.000 t of pizza cardboard box waste is generated in Germany every year. This makes up 22% of the Take-away industry.

With an average weight of 102 g per package, this corresponds to 490.196.078 single-use pizza cardboard boxes each year. Considering, the used boxes cannot be recycled and need to be disposed of in the general waste bins, it quickly becomes clear that our reusable solution PIZZycle is much needed.

To fully show the dimensions of this, we created these illustrations comparing the annual amount.

By stacking all boxes on top of another, they become as high as the diameter of the earth twice! Their weight comes up to as much as 7 Eiffel towers. When lined up, they can wrap around the earth 5 times!

Besides the reduction of product specific CO2 emissions and lower resource consumption due to the reusability of PIZZycle, the substitution of carboard boxes is particularly beneficial for avoiding potential health risks.

Thus, a great number of German and European authorities and institutes have determined that the migration of toxic substances, such as mineral oil, Diisopropylnaphthalenes and Fluorotelomer alcohol through the pizza cardboard box, can lead to dangerous concentrations of those substances on the pizza. We chose a certified food-safe material for the production of PIZZycle to eliminate those hazards.

Furthermore, we are making sure to minimise the impact of our production as much as possible by having all manufacturing steps local to us in Germany. This enables us to closely work together with them at all times! We can therefore ensure great quality of PIZZycle, as the durability of our product is the core of our work.

Finally, we can continue enjoying pizza without worries in the future!
